Swashzone Fluid Velocities

چکیده
The overall objective of these projects is to improve models for fluid velocities in the swash zone. Although runup excursions and cross-shore swashzone velocities owing to random waves on a natural beach are predicted well by a model (Rbreak) based on the vertically-averaged nonlinear shallow water equations with quadratic bottom friction (Kobayashi et al. 1989, Raubenheimer et al. 1995, Raubenheimer 2002), it is not clear whether the alongshore velocities are predicted accurately. Furthermore, despite recent results that suggest alongshore sediment transport occurs primarily in the swash and outer surf zones (Bodge and Dean 1987, Kamphuis 1991, Thornton and Abdelrahman 1991), few studies have examined the importance of alongshore swashzone currents. The specific objectives of these projects are to:

A Numerical Study of Flow and Heat Transfer Between Two Rotating Vertically Eccentric Spheres with Time- Dependent Angular Velocities
The transient motion and the heat transfer of a viscous incompressible flow contained between two vertically eccentric spheres maintained at different temperatures and rotating about a common axis with different angular velocities is numerically considered when the angular velocities are an arbitrary functions of time. The resulting flow pattern, temperature distribution, and heat transfer char...
متن کاملEffect of ventilation air velocities on diesel particulate matter dispersion in underground coal mines
This paper presents a detailed account of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations undertaken to investigate the influence of intake (ventilation) air velocities on the flow patterns of diesel particulate matter (DPM) generated by a man-riding vehicle operating in a straight rectangular cross section tunnel in an underground coal mine. The simulation results are validated against an earli...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE PCMR, widely used for the evaluation of blood flow, has been adopted for the assessment of cerebrospinal fluid flow in a variety of disorders. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and reproducibility of 2 fast PCMR techniques for measuring CSF flow. MATERIALS AND METHODS Velocities were calculated from RPC and CPC images of fluid flowing in a tube at a...
متن کاملMicrowave radar cross sections and Doppler velocities measured in the surf zone
[1] The relationship between microwave imaging radar measurements of fluid velocities in the surf zone and shoaling, breaking, and broken waves is studied with field observations. Normalized radar cross section (NRCS) and Doppler velocity are estimated from microwave measurements at near-grazing angles, and in situ fluid velocities are measured with acoustic Doppler velocimeters (ADVs). Joint h...

The theoretical balance (Longuet-Higgins and Stewart, 1961) between cross-shore gradients of the mean water level and the wave radiation stress is being evaluated using observations of wave-driven setup. Setup observations were acquired during the SandyDuck experiment from Sept. through Nov. 1997 on a sandy Atlantic Ocean beach near Duck, NC. Bottom pressure was measured with 12 buried pressure...
